City Folding AI: Your Street Folds Like Inception
The buildings in your street copy themselves, fold up in layers and lean over the road, then the next passage folds shut. One photo of a street or square is enough, and you can stand in it.

The City Folding AI prompt and model
City Folding AI is made with Seedance 2.0 / 2.5 (you pick the tier) by ByteDance. The prompt behind it has 5 parts, and the timing is what makes or breaks it.
- Model
- Seedance 2.0 / 2.5 (you pick the tier)
- Mode
- Photo + motion reference to video
- Length
- 9 seconds, 9:16, 1:1 or 16:9
- Input
- 1 photo
- Replace the city The street, buildings, sky and light in the 9-second reference clip are swapped for the place in your photo.
- Keep the motion The street-level camera, the cut at 5 seconds and the way the buildings fold are taken from the reference.
- You, unfolded If you are in the photo you stay in the first shot as photographed, watching, and never bend with the city.
- The fold Floors copy and fold outward into a leaning stack, then a closer passage hinges inward and folds shut.
- Rules Photorealistic, no explosions, fire or falling rubble, no extra people, no text, logos or watermarks.
Replace the city in Video 1 with the place in Image 1. Its street, buildings, colours, materials, sky, time of day and light all come from Image 1.…
Why it goes wrong when you do it yourself
- A typed prompt alone tends to give a generic morph or an explosion, not the slow layer-by-layer fold that makes the clip.
- Video models keep the buildings of a reference clip unless the whole place is explicitly replaced, so you get someone else's city.
- People in the photo get bent along with the street unless the prompt keeps them out of the fold.
- Folding architecture is hard to get right in one try, and every try costs credits and minutes.

What is the City Folding AI trend?
Updated · videosi is an independent tool. It is not affiliated with TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, or with the owners of any trend, song, game or brand named on its pages.
City folding AI is a type of short AI clip in which an ordinary-looking city starts to misbehave: facades copy themselves floor by floor, streets bend upward, arches hinge inward and whole blocks fold like paper. Most people know the look from the folding Paris street in the 2010 film Inception, and many clips are tagged that way, but the AI versions are made from scratch and contain no film footage.
There is no single original. The most viewed clip we found is a liminal night-city piece captioned "The Folded City", posted on TikTok on 19 October 2025, at about 179,000 views when we checked on 2 November 2026. Other folding-city clips have appeared through 2026, from rooftop scenes to origami old towns, mostly with a few hundred to a few thousand views each. Our trend radar picked the phrase up on 14 October 2026 and marked it as fading by 25 October, so the wave is past its peak and examples are few.
No shared song goes with it. Creators use their own music, so your video carries the instrumental original sound of the most viewed clip, the one this page uses as its motion reference.
This page makes your own version from one photo of a street, square or building. The first shot is your place folding up in layers; it then cuts to a closer passage in the same light that folds shut. If you are standing in the photo, you stay put and watch it happen.
City Folding AI: shot by shot
- 0-1 s
Calm street
Your street or square, exactly as photographed, with the camera at street level.
- 1-3 s
The facade copies itself
The main building starts to repeat its floors upward, the first layers folding outward.
- 3-4.8 s
Stacked tower
The layers keep folding until the building leans over the road like a stacked paper model.
- 4.8-7.5 s
Cut to the passage
A closer view of an archway or walkway in the same light; its arches and pillars begin to hinge inward.
- 7.5-9 s
Folded shut
The whole passage folds in on itself into a tangle of architecture, lamps still glowing.
Tips for a better result
Shoot along the street
A photo looking down a street with buildings on one or both sides folds best. A blank wall or open sky gives the model little to fold.
Keep it level
Hold the phone upright at eye level. Tilted or very wide-angle photos make the buildings bend before the fold starts.
Stand clear if you are in it
Stand in the middle or the lower third with your whole body visible, so the buildings can move around you.
Any light works
Day, dusk or night: the clip keeps the light of your photo. Avoid heavy filters, which change the colours of the stone and glass.
Good to know before you make a City Folding AI video
- This trend is past its peak: it was fading by late October 2026 and there are only a handful of examples online. The page is here for anyone still making it.
- The video is 9 seconds, two shots: your place folding, then a closer passage nearby folding shut. That second view is made up by the model from your photo, so it is not a real spot.
- The prompt has not been tested on every kind of photo. Buildings can melt rather than fold, and a person in the photo may shift slightly.
- The sound is the instrumental original sound of the most viewed clip, not a song. A failed, timed-out or blocked render returns its credits. videosi is not affiliated with TikTok, CapCut or the makers of Inception.
City Folding AI: questions
What is the city folding AI trend?
City folding AI is a short AI clip, on videosi 9 seconds long, in which a real-looking street folds in on itself: floors copy upward, buildings lean over the road and arches hinge shut. It borrows the folding-street look of Inception without any film footage. videosi makes it from one photo of your street.
How do I make a city folding AI video?
Upload one photo of a street, square or building to videosi, pick 9:16, 1:1 or 16:9 and press Generate. In a few minutes you get a 9-second MP4 of your place folding up, with the sound on it. You write no prompt; the fold, the cut and the timing are built in.
Is there a city folding AI generator or website?
Yes: videosi turns 1 photo into a 9-second city folding AI video in the browser, with no app to install. It works with a photo of a place on its own, or with you standing in the street, in which case you stay still while the city folds around you.
Is there a city folding TikTok filter or CapCut template?
We did not find a TikTok filter or a CapCut template for city folding as of November 2026; the clips we found were made with AI video tools or 3D software. videosi is independent and not affiliated with TikTok or CapCut: 1 photo in, a 9-second MP4 out.
What AI model and prompt make the city folding effect?
videosi renders city folding AI with ByteDance's Seedance 2.0 or 2.5 (you pick the tier) and a 9-second folding-city clip as the motion reference. The prompt swaps the whole city in that clip for the place in your photo and keeps any person in it unbent. We do not publish the full prompt.
How much does a city folding AI video cost?
On videosi a 9-second city folding AI video costs 10 credits on the Standard model at 720p, the same as any video up to 12 seconds. Credit packs start at $6.99 for 10 credits, credits never expire and a failed render returns its credits.
Do I need to be in the photo?
No. videosi's city folding AI works with 1 photo of a place and no people at all, which is how most of the clips online look. If you are in the photo, you stay in the first shot as photographed while the buildings fold around you.
Why did my city melt instead of fold?
In some videosi city folding renders the buildings smear rather than fold, usually when the photo is tilted, very wide-angle, blurry or has little architecture in it. A level, sharp photo looking down a street with buildings on both sides works best. A failed or blocked render returns its credits.
What does "city folding" mean?
"City folding" describes AI or VFX clips in which a city bends and folds in on itself like paper, as the Paris street does in the 2010 film Inception. On videosi it is a 9-second clip of your own street doing it, and in tags people often call it the Inception effect.
What song is used in city folding videos?
There is no single city folding song: creators each use their own music. videosi puts the instrumental original sound of the most viewed folding-city clip we found, about 179,000 views, on your 9-second video automatically; it has no lyrics.
Is the city folding trend still trending?
As of 2 November 2026 the city folding trend is fading: videosi's radar first picked it up on 14 October 2026 and saw it fall off by 25 October, and new clips are rare. The look itself keeps coming back whenever Inception-style edits do the rounds.
Is this the same as the Inception effect?
Close: "Inception effect" usually means a phone or drone edit where the road bends up into the sky, while city folding AI clips fold the buildings themselves. videosi's 9-second version does the fold from 1 photo, with no drone, mirror edit or 3D software needed.
